Introduction to the Jeweler’s Torch: Learn to safely handle and control the jeweler’s torch with confidence, from lighting to perfecting heat levels with professional guidance from working goldsmith, Samonte Cruz

Hands-On Soldering Techniques: Build confidence in joining non-ferrous metals through hands-on practice, mastering essential techniques for creating strong, seamless connections with professional guidance.

Annealing Basics: Understand the various methods for softening non-ferrous metals for forming and shaping.

Professional Tool Use: Familiarize yourself with the Little Smith oxygen and acetylene torch, an industry standard used by professional goldsmiths for generations.

LOCATION

All courses are taught at Samonte Cruz Studios in the Ymir Studio, 7012 1st Ave, Ymir, BC V0G 2K0


TUITION & SUPPLIES

Small class sizes ensure individualized instruction. The cost includes course specific supplies, use of workbench, chair or stool, basic hand tools, jeweller’s torch, flex shaft machine, and up to 20 grams of copper or brass for use in the course. Sterling silver and gold are available for purchase from the instructor upon request.


HEALTH & SAFETY

Students must bring the following mandatory personal protection equipment to bring:

  1. Close-toed shoes
  2. N95 mask
  3. Safety glasses
  4. Earplugs or other hearing protection

To protect the health and safety of all students, no outside metal may be soldered or cast in the studio unless purchased directly from Samonte Cruz Studios, a metal manufacturer, reputable jewelry supply company, or the Canadian/US Mint. Even karat-stamped jewelry can contain harmful alloys when heated. Students wishing to use their own metal may book a private class or casting session at the instructor's discretion.
