How
do I care for my jewelry?
The
colour of the copper, brass, silver, rose gold and lower karat golds of all
colours may change and darken over time. This is due to a protective layer of
oxides that form on the surface of the metal called a patina. To slow the
formation of the patina, keep your jewelry in a small ziploc bag & store in
a dry environment when not wearing.
To
protect your jewelry’s unique finish, avoid contact with water, lotions, oils,
acids, and harsh cleaners. Some metals may turn green when exposed to prolonged
periods of moisture, so if it does come in contact with water be sure to dry it
thoroughly. Keep in mind that copper, brass, silver, and gold are all softer
than steel, so will scratch if rubbed or hit with steel objects. To avoid
damage please remove your jewelry before working with tools or engaging in
activities like gardening and swimming.
Can
I use silver polish or tricks I read on the internet to clean my jewelry?
Please
don’t! In many cases this will strip the jewelry of its decorative patina. It
is safe to take it to a professional goldsmith for cleaning 1-2 times a year.
More than this and the metal may wear down prematurely, causing it to get
thinner and ultimately reduce the lifetime of the piece. In between cleanings
you can hand polish the ring using a special polishing cloth designed for gold
& silver, like the one provided in your package.
